Britney gave a new interview to Zap2It.com in which she discuss her new role as a judge on X Factor, how she would have loved to join American Idol and more!

Britney Spears says if she wasn't already engaged for the coming TV season, she'd happily have entertained an "American Idol" judging spot.

"I would have loved that," the music superstar tells Zap2it as she prepares to debut as a judge for Season 2 of FOX's "The X Factor" starting Wednesday, Sept. 12. Just as "Idol" is in for another big overhaul, having lost Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez in the past week, the "X Factor" judging panel will be half-new ... with Spears and Demi Lovato joining series mentor Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid.

"I feel like it brings a whole new energy to the show, definitely," reasons Spears, who already has been involved in contestant auditions for several weeks. "Nicole [Scherzinger] and Paula [Abdul] were really great, but to have such a dramatic change, I'll bet this even made Simon and L.A. nervous."

"That was what they had been used to, then these two new girls come in. I don't know how it'll be perceived, but it's been fun for us. I've been having a blast."

Spears empathizes with "X Factor" contenders, since the competition "Star Search" was part of her own career beginnings. "I would be extremely nervous, probably, if I'd really never done anything before and it was my first time to perform in front of 4,000 people," she reflects of watching auditions in such cities as San Francisco and Providence (R.I.). "I'm sure it's pretty nerve-racking."

As for herself, the artist behind such hits as " ... Baby One More Time," "Oops! ... I Did It Again," "(You Drive Me) Crazy" and "Gimme More" certainly is no stranger to being in the spotlight. Her "X-Factor" stint is certain to amp that up, and she admits, "I hope I'm ready. I don't really know what to expect at this point, so I'm just taking it one day at a time."

According to TMZ, it seems like Vanilla Ice enjoyed Britney's Ice, Ice Baby dance during the X Factor auditions in Greensboro this week. Brit couldn't resist and stood up to do a sexy dance when one of the contestants performed Vanilla's hit single.

Vanilla Ice says it's "amazing" that Britney Spears is a fan of "Ice, Ice Baby" ... and tells us the footage of Brit jamming out to the song at a recent "X Factor" audition is nothing less than a "classic moment."

"I love it" ... Ice said ... adding, "Simon Cowell giving her a high five? That is AWESOME!"

We posted the footage earlier this week ... Britney got out of her seat at the judge's table to dance and sing along with the lyrics while a contestant performed the 1990 classic during an audition in North Carolina.

Vanilla tells us he's glad his song is still "kicking ass" ... insisting the jam has a "magical connection" to people in their 20s and 30s.

Ice -- who's about to start production on Season 3 of his home renovation show "The Vanilla Ice Project" -- added, "Britney Spears is a legend ... and she rocked out to MY song? That's f**king amazing!"

If fans of "The X Factor" are wondering just who will be the meanest judge this season, a new promo released by Fox has the answer: It's Britney, bitch!

In an "X Factor" first-look clip released by the network, Britney Spears shoots down a vocalist with one cutting comment: "I don't know who let you on stage."

Ouch!

Not to be outdone, Simon Cowell is seemingly back in rare form, cutting a contestant to the quick with one of his classic putdowns.

"You perform like a dog trying to lay an egg," he sneers in the promo.

The rest of the sneak peak, which repeats the mantra, "Are you ready?," is equally entertaining. Spears tells a singer that he's "hot," while Cowell delights in embarrassing fellow judge Demi Lovato by divulging her dating status as "single." It also appears several would-be superstars end up in the emergency room (shades of "American Idol's" Season 11 mishaps, which included a vocalist plummeting off the stage as well as other medical drama in the audition stages).

In other "X Factor" news, the reality show crossover continues as reports are swirling that Tarralyn Ramsey, a rejected singer from "The Voice," wowed the judges in Greensboro, Ky. Additionally, Shelby Lynn Tweten, famously featured in the "American Idol" Aspen, Colo., auditions (she suffered from bipolar disorder) showed up in Kentucky for another shot.

"The X Factor" debuts at 8 p.m. Sept. 12 and 13 on Fox.
